this news has been out for a while but I missed it … and evidently so did much of the UK’s media. Headline news from Ha’aretz news on June 13th, 2007: “BRITISH OPPOSITION LEADER LABELS HIMSELF “A ZIONIST””

now remember the current situation in the UK where many universities have urged a boycott of Israel and its products. Well now, Cameron has spoken out about his support for Israel, even labeling himself a “Zionist.” He report quotes Cameron saying that support for “Israel is “in the DNA” of members of Britain’s Conservative Party, Ha’aretz quoted Cameron as telling a gathering of the Conservative Friends of Israel group in London.” He then goes on to define what he means by a Zionist: “If by Zionist you mean that the Jews have the right to a homeland in Israel and the right to a country, then I am a Zionist.”

He is quoted on Conservative Friends of Israel site: “There is something deep in our Party’s DNA that believes in Israel, the right of Israel to exist, the right of Israel to defend itself and that a deal should only happen if it means that Israel is really allowed to have peace within secure borders and real guarantees about its future”

He has also come out and criticized British universities who have protested about “Israeli aggression” against the Palestinians. He defended Israel’s right to build a security fence aimed at keeping Palestinian terrorists living in Judea and Samaria away from Israel’s main population centers.

It is good to see the Tories doing something right for a change! I wish Labour were more pro-Israel. Here is the Labour Friends of Israel site and the Conservative Friends of Israel site.

Genesis 12:3 “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse”
